A Young Female Triumphs Over Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Treatment For Her Irresponsible Drinking, And Enhances Her Self Esteem
|
Emily was a thirty-six-year-old financial analyst who was fed up with feeling depressed on a daily basis and sick of her careless and abusive drinking behavior. Stated briefly, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a valueless habit, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship because of her irresponsible drinking, she missed her old drive for doing various things she enjoyed, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis.
As well as the perceptible alcohol-related health predicaments she was going through, perhaps the nastiest part of her drinking behavior was the undependable and scheming person she had become. In her heart she realized that she had been deceitful about her drinking behavior to her friends, family, and relatives and she also knew she had been deceitful with herself about the "healthy" outcomes of drinking. Not only this but she rationalized wolfing down four or five alcoholic beverages before going to social activities and she also rationalized needing a few drinks as soon as she awakened so that she could deal with the "anxiety" at her job. Simply put, Emily got to a special time in her life when she finally comprehended that she hit the bottom of the barrel in her life and was now ready to start the slow and gradual path that leads to recovery.
One of the primary ways that Emily put her "plan" into action was by asking for a transfer at her workplace. When her request was approved by Human Resources and by top management, she moved 250 miles away to a new state. If nothing else, this without a doubt made making new friends and pals and separating herself from her old friends and pals easier. Then she phoned a healthcare professional in her new residence and made an appointment for a complete exam.
After meeting with the doctor and taking numerous laboratory tests, it was determined that Emily had crossed the line from alcohol abuse to dependency on alcohol and as a consequence, needed alcohol detoxification and alcohol treatment. At this time, her healthcare practitioner made it a point to highlight the various alcoholic symptoms and the usual symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to taking a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, her healthcare practitioner also told Emily that it was determined that she was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for her medical issue.
Due to her eagerness to follow through with the treatment protocol, after eleven weeks of residential treatment, Emily was ready to start therapy on an outpatient basis. At this point in time, she began working at her new job and over a period of several weeks began fortifying her body by drinking filtered water, taking vitamins, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free lifestyle, and working out.
After nearly thirteen weeks of outpatient rehab during which time she never experienced an alcohol relapse, Emily quit going to alcohol rehabilitation and instead began going three times per week to local AA meetings. Attending these meetings helped Emily continue her alcohol-free style of life, they provided her with the support she wanted, and they served as a faithful reminder of the damaging consequences that are linked to excessive and careless drinking. Compared with her life less than a year ago, life was now worthwhile and loaded with possibilities that she could have never longed for or brought to fruition while while she was troubled with abusive drinking behavior.
