When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as a person who hit the books real hard and who rarely, if ever, drank with her buddies. She seemed almost obsessed about "standing out" academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only benefited from but one that also gave her some security from a financial position.
After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a nationally ranked program in history. Her logic for this decision was that this academic discipline would be a good springboard for law school and would not be identical to the preponderance of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.
Lois was the type of individual who worked hard to reach her goal and then would take a breather when she could. It just so happens, nevertheless, that a good number of the things she did between terms or during her summer vacations were unrelated to drinking. Needless to say, Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were over and pleased that she had done extremely well on her finals, because of this, she wanted to let her hair down and do something enjoyable.
So Lois and several of her friends went to a local club where they had a few shots. As the evening progressed, Lois and her classmates continued to drink. In actual fact, she was having such a terrific time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.
After drinking around two hours when Lois began to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then become unconscious, in spite of this, her friends instantaneously knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for emergency assistance because they thought that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Lois was very aware that she came close to losing her life from an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was happy to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat disheartened knowing that she had almost passed away the night before. Her Mother and Father knew how intensely she worked at school and how little she permitted herself to experience a social life. Nonetheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to keep away from irresponsible and hazardous drinking.
As a result, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking situation unfolds, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was in agreement with this and promised her friends and her Mom and Dad that she would never ever drink in an excessive and abusive manner. In her own words, "I never pondered the fact that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now grasp the fact that abusive and excessive drinking is not my style. I say publicly that this will never happen again."
Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also had a lot of common sense. In other words, she rapidly comprehended that she had made a mistake and made up her mind that she would never make the same error in judgment again. If truth be told, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this kind of careless drinking can result in a fatality.
